TOPSHAM — Ten students graduated from Merrymeeting’s Certified Nursing Assistant program in a ceremony held Aug. 15, at the adult education center.
Alysha Ciccarelli, Becky Doughty, Andrea Halperin, Krystle Hood, Ashley Major, Collin Michaud, Kristen Morin, Hannah Roy, and Katie Vaillancourt completed their coursework and clinical rotations on July 31. They entered the ranks of certified health-care professionals upon earning passing scores on the state exam.
The class was taught by Margot Kovach, RN, who spoke of the how close and supportive the class became over the 19 weeks of the course. This cohort was larger than recent groups, and Susan Zimmerman, RN, was brought in to help teach during the clinical rotation.
Official certificates and a gift of gold scissors were presented by Kovach, Zimmerman, and Allen Lampert, director of Merrymeeting Adult Ed.
Merrymeeting’s CNA program offers comprehensive training for adult learners interested in pursuing a career in health care. The 19-week work-ready course includes 110 hours of in-person classroom time, and 70 hours of clinical practice in a hospital or nursing home setting. Scholarships are available.

Merrymeeting Adult Education provides opportunities for adult learners to complete a traditional high school diploma, earn a HiSET (formerly GED), prepare for college, train for careers, and develop skills and interests in a variety of personal enrichment classes, everything from canoe paddle making to private pilot ground school.
