‘Topping off ceremony’ lifts new Morse High School to next stage

‘Topping off ceremony’ lifts new Morse High School to next stage

posted on September 26, 2019

Regional School Unit 1 Superintendent Patrick Manuel addresses members of the Morse and Bath communities as the construction crew prepares to place the last structural beam of the new high school, on Sept. 25.

BATH – Members of the Regional School Unit 1 community signed their names on the final structural beam to be set in the construction of the new Morse High School and Bath Regional Career and Technical Center.

Superintendent Patrick Manuel welcomed students, staff, alumni, city and legislative leaders, and other community members to a “Topping Off Ceremony” on Sept. 25. Guests were invited to sign the steel beam before a crane lifted it into place.

The Morse project, under construction at Wing Farm Business Park, is the first new building RSU 1 has produced since the towns of Woolwich, Arrowsic, Phippsburg, and Bath became a consolidated school district in 2009. The high school and vocational program serves students throughout the region, including West Bath and Georgetown.

The district hopes the new school will be open by January 2021. Merrymeeting, which took over operation of RSU 1 and Wiscasset Adult Education July 1, will continue to provide educational services to adults in the Midcoast region at the new Morse High School.
