High School Completion Options
Looking to obtain your high school credential? Merrymeeting Adult Education can offer two different pathways to help you get your high school diploma. Instruction, books, and all test expenses are offered to the student at no cost.
Option I: HiSET
The HiSET (High School Equivalency Test) has replaced the GED in Maine. It serves the same purpose. The HiSET consists of a series of 5 tests in the following subject areas: Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, and Science. HiSET learning labs provide you with all of the preparation that you will need to sit for and successfully pass these tests.
Adults ages 17 and older can reach their education goals with the High School Equivalency Test (HiSET). If you are 16, you can still prepare to take the HiSET, and be ready to take the official tests when you turn 17.
The HiSET provides a number of accommodations for test takers with disabilities and health-related needs.
Option II. High School Diploma
Merrymeeting Adult Education offers a number of academic courses for you to earn high school credits to meet the requirements for a high school diploma. These include, but are not limited to, English, math, algebra, U.S. History, and elective opportunities.
If you are interested in obtaining your high school credential through one of these pathways, please call your local office to determine which option is the best for you.
