Sailing for Adults

Merrymeeting charts a new course this summer in partnership with Sailing Ships Maine. Students will learn to row a dinghy, set and strike sail, steer, navigate, use a marine radio, operate a small outboard, watch the weather, tie knots, and follow basic safety. The primary instructional boat, the Paul Bolger-designed 25 yawl, is a strong, beamy, shallow-draft cruising boat ideal for Merrymeeting Bay. The decks are wide and spacious and will keep students socially distanced as they spend the week outdoors. The cost of each session is $295 and includes basic Sailing Ships Maine sailing certification, T-shirt, rope, and journal. No discounts.

Iceland: Land of Fire, Ice, and Sustainability

Join us for a six-day adventure exploring Iceland's alluring landscapes, renewable energy, and sustainable practices, and learn what you can do to become a part of the solution to the challenges we face. On this trip, we'll explore Reykjavik, Iceland's beautiful capital city, and taste some of its delicious cuisine. We'll learn about Iceland's Viking history and the culture, language, and geography that has shaped who Icelanders are today. You'll get to know Hordur and Kristin, an Icelandic farm couple and friends of CELL, and partake of a traditional Icelandic meal. And at the completion of the program, you'll develop an action plan for engaging sustainable practices in your own life back home.

Package Price is $3,300.00, payable by check ONLY. Costs DO include all in-country food, lodging, travel, and activity fees. Costs DO NOT include round trip airfare (approximately $450 - $600 as of 2021 prices). A $500 deposit is due upon registration to reserve your spot. The final payment will be due in May. Mushroom Walk: Session I

This course will include walking in the woods of Merrymeeting Bay to find edible mushrooms along with detailed descriptions of habitat and structure. David Spahr has collected edible mushrooms for 46 years and is a member of the Maine Mycological Association and the North American Mycological Association. Every walk bears a different bounty depending on the season, the weather and location. The majority of mushrooms found in nature are often not edible, and learning this element is even more important than knowing which ones you can eat. Please bring a notebook and pen, sensible clothing and footwear, water, snack and bug repellant. A basket or bags are optional. Children 8 to 15 are allowed to register only with a parent who is also registered. These hikes can be moderate in difficulty. No discounts.

Skateboarding with Bobby

Would you, or your young ones be interested in learning how to skateboard? Or maybe you know a little, and want to learn a lot? Bobby Gray is a skateboarder who wants to share his passion, and teach those who are interested. He has been skateboarding for over 20 years, and continues to do so despite the bumps and bruises! Come learn the basics of board control, learn how to ollie, and maybe even some flip tricks! This workshop is open to all ages and skill ranges. All you need is a skateboard, a helmet (required for minors and highly encouraged for adults), and the willingness to occasionally fall down! Knee and elbow pads are required for minors, and a good idea for adults.
