Woven Window Feeders

Humans have been weaving baskets for hundreds of thousands of years. Many plant materials may be used to weave with: vines, leaves, bark, wood, and more. Basket weaving requires various skills, all involving twisting and pulling and wrapping the materials around each other. Weaving a small project, like a fish (pictured), or a heart or five-pointed star, along with other shapes, can provide a comprehensive, beginner-friendly introduction to most of the skills required for full-scale basketry. Learn to make a beautiful woven window feeder for birds! We'll cover identification, responsible collection, materials processing and storage, and creation, including the basics of stake-and-strand waling and randing weaves.

Mushroom Walk

Join seasoned forager David Spahr on an immersive mushroom hunt, exploring habitats, structures, and safe foraging practices. Uncover surprises in each walk, shaped by season and location. Suitable for all ages (8-15 with a registered parent), this moderate-difficulty hike promises an exciting, educational adventure. Supply List: Notebook and pen to take notes, sensible clothing and footwear, water, snack and bug repellant. A basket or bags are optional. NOTE: This class will start with an outdoor talk at the waterfront followed by the walking portion.

Please bring a birth certificate or passport to the first class and a pen to every class. Parents/Guardians are required to attend the last 45 minutes of the first class and do a ride-along with their child, to be scheduled by the instructor and parent.

Are you between ages 15 and 19 and want your State of Maine permit to prepare for your driving exam? We offer driver education courses to help build strong, safe, and confident drivers. Students are awarded an instructional permit upon successfully completing the course with a grade of 80 percent or better. The total hours of instruction are 40; 30 are in the classroom, and 10 are hours behind the wheel. A full payment of $560 is due at the time of registration. If a student withdraws from the course, $75 is withheld from the refund to cover program costs. Only employee discounts for this class. Please call Merrymeeting to register by phone if you are employed by MSAD 75, RSU 1, Brunswick, or Wiscasset school departments. If the student has a medical diagnosis, the list is on our website. Everyone remembers a special story from when they were a child; a story that they have remembered all of their lives. That is what a well written children’s story does, it makes an impact. But even though children’s stories may be easy to read, creating stories for children is one of the most challenging – and fulfilling things you will ever do as a writer. In this course your instructor will share tips and techniques for creating stories designed specifically for children under the age of 10. We will cover picture books, early readers and grade school level story writing.

Experienced hikers and campers: Prepare and plan to join up to 8 adventurers to summit Maine's tallest peak with Registered Maine Guide, Chris Toy. You must be able to hike for 4 hours with a 20 pound pack while gaining 2000 feet in elevation to sign up for this trip. The trip will take three days and two nights. The dates are approximate depending on when reservations are available. Summiting is not guaranteed and will depend on weather conditions. *There is a $25.00 non-refundable fee for cancellations.
